the glorious risk of cultural translation

A fascinating article in Books and Culture captures well why the journal is called just that;
it is both a review (by a French-speaker and an English-speaker) of a book translated from French into English , and a commentary on culture and translation:

"'Translation is not a transfer of meaning from one language to another, but a dialogue between two languages,' (as Pevear has said)...

..Not only words but also ways of seeing the world require translation, a risky but indispensable enterprise. "
-Technology in Translation,

Reminds me that Eugene Peterson was right, as usual.
