" Play Me"/"Where the Streets Have No Name"

Interesting choice of snippet Bono sang (see video at bottom) last night (instead of "Amazing Grace")  to introduce "Streets."
It was...  Neil Diamond's "Play Me" (thanks to U2-OAP for the scoop)..intriguing biblical  (and "With Or Without You"-esque) shift in the lyrics towards the end (see bold print), though Bono only sand the first part.  He has snippeted this song only one before (coupled with "One").

Note, also that often in U2's own lyrics, "son" is God/Jesus/Son and "moon" are whatever (often women) who distract from God ("The sun is sometimes eclipsed by the moon/I don't see You when she walks in the room," etc.)

Also intriguing is that Diamond apparently has another song inspired by "Amazing Grace.":

PLAY ME Neil Diamond She was morning and I was night time. I one day woke up to find her lyin' beside my bed. I softly said, "Come take me." For I've been lonely, in need of someone As though I'd done someone wrong somewhere, but I don't know where. I don't know where, come lately You are the sun, I am the moon, You are the words, I am the tune, play me. Song, she sang to me, song she brang to me, Words that rang in me, rhyme that sprang from me warmed the night. And what was right became me. You are the sun, I am the moon, You are the words, I am the tune, play me. She was morning and I was night time. I one day woke up to find her lyin' beside my bed. I softly said, "Come take me." So it was that I came to travel, Upon a road that was thorned and narrow, another place, Another grace would save me. You are the sun, I am the moon, You are the words, I am the tune, play me. You are the sun, I am the moon, You are the words, I am the tune, .....play........ me.

Diamond once said:
{about ]"'PlayMe,'",I've had people say, 'Jesus, there's a couple of lines I wish you'd change.' It's crazy. Let one line reach. Let it not add up to anything and touch you. And let's you not understand it. There are no rules, you see. That's the beautiful thing about it. And the best things I've done are the things that people really don't understand." link
