Seeing God @ St. Arbuck's II

I was God-blasted one again, in similar fashion and in the same place as my previous "word from God at St. Arbuck's"..

..again on the subject of visualcy and a synesthesiatic "seeing what God is saying" (a la Habb. 2:1-2 and Rev 1:12 etc).

This week's cup:

Way I See It #68

In an age when pictures have become more eloquent than words, schools are still programmed to reduce the child’s immersive interaction with the visual world to the practical poverty of the alphabet. Visual literacy should become a pedagogical priority in order to prepare our children to function within the increasingly visual complexity of our environment.

For those of you with valid concerns that this all leads to the downfall of reading and a "literal" literacy, hear (see) what this is NOT saying. This is no small issue for the church in current culture. Just talk to St. Marshall McLuhan (well, don't talk to him, he's dead...but read his prescient writings), or some of the writers quotes and linked below...read (see) witha n open heart, mind...and full St. Arbuck's cup.

From Leonard Shlain's "The Alphabet Versus the Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image":

The ostensible rationale for the war between the canaanites and the Israelites can be simply put: the former worshipped their gods through their use of images, the latter worshipped their God through the medium of written words. Words triumphed in this first of many confrontations between pictures and text (102)

The Protestant Reformation was clearly not a return to the CENTER of the New Testament; but, I submit, a wrenching sociological shift wrought by a new information technology dependent on users being alpha-literate. This, in turn, changed the collecvtive perception of culture. The printing press made the Reformation's rigid and repressive self-discipline posible.

(349) The religious wars that wracked Europe...occurred ONLY in those lands impacted by the printing press..(361)

And read what St. Mark is about to post...Mark, tell us about the new Reformation book...we need apostolic arteurs such as yourself in this conversation..or we may not see straight...

That's the way I see it..
