Whereas the altar, tents, tabernacle, and temple held God’s marginalized, on-the-run, wobbling Israelites together, the ecclesia of Christ was formed, not as a physical location or a building, but as a union of decentralized communities held together by the central life force of the Holy Spirit and the teaching of an apostolic band of leaders who gave direction to the communities.”
