  1. John MacArthur has always had a lot of rules. I guess I knew that when I used to regularly listen to Grace to You on the radio. He's learned and often has great insights, but he's awfully firm about what's right and wrong.

I got a little more understanding when he published his edition of the Bible, with his study notes attached. I thought I would like a copy until I found it was KJV only, with MacArthur opining that KJV was the only true version or some nonsense like that.

But this Strange Fire is really a bridge too far. It's OK to disagree on the "negotiables" like, for example, the ongoing presence of spiritual gifts in the church. I think he's wrong on that point, having witnessed more than one instance of the unexplainable in my life. Maybe he's never actually seen anything miraculous. But for him to declare the entire Charismatic movement, and all of CCM, to be not holy, or not of God, or of Satan of all things . . . . just can't abide that.

Time to retire, Dr. MacArthur. You are doing more harm than good.

  2. "..doing more harm than good." By explaining the scripture? I think John is absolutely right and shows that many people are making God fit into their lives, instead of giving their lives for His glory. God is your maker and not a 'pal' or friend you fit into your pocket.
