The truth of Jesus' teaching on marriage & divorce in all in the context. He states that a man who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulterer and a man that marries and divorced woman is an adulterer. The first clue is that he states 'unchaste' which means illegal intercourse (rape), so he says if a man divorces his wife because she has been raped, she is not to be considered an adulterer. The second clue is why state that a man who marries and divorced woman is an adulterer? Because the true meaning of marriage is to come together and divorce is to separate, but not that it is a sacred union. Marriage is a political and legal union, not a divine union. That is what Jesus is relaying. The divorce of church and state was to keep Government out of Religion, not vice versa.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, the word 'adulterer' is not derived from 'adult' it is derived from 'pundit'. Feel free to fact check that. God knew that men would perverse His words, and so truth can be found even in translations, but we must not use definitions we have been conditioned to believe by government. We must look to the etymology (the study of the true meaning of a word). The Word is God and we must follow the rules of language to divine the Word's meaning.
