everybody sing, now: "I am no Christ"

If there were any justice...or just justice...we could sing this song in USAmerican churches.
Can't you imagine it as a happy-clappy worship song?
Why not?
Besides the fact that

  •  it's honest (uh oh),
  • the pre-chorus is just paraphrasing John the Baptist's favorite motto.

...we  obviously have great biblical precedent for this type of thing.
(See also  "honest worship music?" and  "Church, let's sing suspended in space..." and uh, a worship song called "Maranatha" which includes the F-word)..

If you like it, try some other ditties from the same album:

  • "(I've Got) Blood on My Hands"
  • "Hang Me High"
  • "(I'm) Miles From Shame"

Here it is..practice it for Sunday:

"I am no Christ"
by Michael Knott.
The shimmer of the pseudo-holy is tarnished when the bird is mocking
The glory of the men in holding is for the pseudo to be stalking

Cross me once and I'll forgive you
Cross me twice and it gets hard
Cross me three times and just remember I am no Christ
I am no Christ

Chorus:
Am I the animal?
Am I the enemy?

They find the maps between the pages of the Man made of sorrows
And when their love fears aground, they pawn the ship and they borrow

Cross me once and I'll forgive you
Cross me twice and it gets hard
Cross me three times and just remember I am no Christ
I am no Christ

Chorus:
Am I the animal?
Am I the enemy?
