The results of my non-scientfic (=Facebook) poll are in.
(see the poll, and add your vote, here)
Quite interesting.
Note: 9 of the choices were mine, but voters were also allowed to create a category, which several did.
Note: on the 5th item from bottom: Guess who that was, and watch his sermon here!
Note: on the one answer that I put as a joke, since it is obviously the "wrong" answer, and I knew no one would vote that way....Rabbi Adam voted that way. Oy! (But he gets some grace...but we need to talk (:.....)
Note: on the last choice:comment?

Pastors should be relational, but I'm not sure if as a good father would be the right term. When you think of a good father you think of someone who teaches their child through their life experiences and you raise the child to idolize the father's personality, achievements, and in essence try to be more like that father.
I think a problem a lot of churches have, and I know I had in High school when a youth group switched pastors is that you almost learn to idolize the Pastor who acted as the father figure, and you lose sight of who you are really following. Is it God you're trying to honor and impress, or is it the pastor?
However, instead of having a pastor who is like a good father, I think a Pastor should be like a good older brother. Someone who will teach you and show you the ropes. Someone who will show you good examples and be a positive role model in their life, however encourage their individually. A lot of pastors have this "holier than thou" attitude due to their position, but that's just not right. We all have our faults, including the pastor, and I think that the pastor needs to show that not only he has made mistakes, but lead by example in to repentance. Overall I suppose the short way of saying this is that, the pastor needs to recognize that he is not the "head" of the body of christ, but just another brother of Christ who is growing with the fellowship that he leads.
